Meet my Mom, Alicia Almanza. She is an 21 year survivor of a very rare form of cancer, Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. Recently, my Mom had to tell me that her cancer had spread to her lungs. We traveled to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas in hopes of a treatment for her. Physicians advised us that there was no treatment for my Mom at this point. Physicians explained that due to A.C.C.'s rarity that there is minimal research in the works. Since then my Mom's cancer has spread to her cervical vertebrae. Not only has my Mother been afflicted with cancer but a cancer so rare that there is minimal research being conducted on ACC. My mom didn't get to choose the type of cancer she has, but we believe that she should have the same shot at a cure as anyone who suffers from any type of Cancer. I decided that we had to do something. Thanks to the love and support of many countless family members and friends, our non for profit organization, ATTACK ACC was born . All of the monies raised will be sent to the University of Virginia Comprehensive Cancer Center. They are one of the few Cancer Centers in the United States that have dedicated themselves to doing research on Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma.
